Committee endorses proposed addendum to law on Service in National Security Bodies

It is proposed to create legal grounds for appointing the former employees of the National Security Service (NSS) of Nagorno-Karabakh to relevant positions in the RA NSS. The Deputy Director of the RA National Security Service Andranik Simonyan said this at the extraordinary sitting of the NA Standing Committee on Defense and Security on July 10, presenting the draft law on Making Addendum to the Law on Service in National Security Bodies for debate in the first reading.

A provision is planned according to which the period of service in Nagorno-Karabakh, the position held and the title will be taken into consideration when appointing a position in an authorized body in accordance with the law. The law will be extended to the persons who held a position in the National Security Service of Nagorno-Karabakh as of September 19, 2023 and will be appointed to a position to continue their service in the authorized body until July 1, 2025.

The addendum will be temporary: The implementation date will be July 1, 2025, after which it will cease to operate.

It was emphasized that the proposed regulation can be used by those persons who will accept the RA citizenship.

In his related report, the Committee Chair Andranik Kocharyan positively assessed the proposed amendment, urging his colleagues to vote for it.

The draft was endorsed by the Committee. It is planned to be debated during the extraordinary session of the National Assembly to be convened on July 11, under a special procedure.
