Parliament debates issue of election of members of Corruption Prevention Commission

On July 11, the issue of the election of the members of the Corruption Prevention Commission was debated at the extraordinary session of the National Assembly convened on the initiative of the Government. By the decision of the Competition Council, Narine Avetisyan’s candidacy was proposed for the vacant position of the member of the Corruption Prevention Commission.

The member of the Competition Council, the deputy of the RA NA Civil Contract Faction Arusyak Julhakyan briefly presented the candidate’s biographical data and work activities.

Narine Avetisyan, thanking the Competition Council for presenting her candidacy for the second time, noted that the steady implementation of the anti-corruption policy should contribute to the construction of a stable, democratic and corruption-free society, and the institutional development of the state institutions.

Narine Avetisyan answered the MPs’ questions, referring to the elections held in the RA in 2011-2016, the non-viable structures in the electoral system, and the prevention of real and apparent corruption.

The NA Vice President Hakob Arshakyan who chaired the sitting mentioned that Vagharsh Aghabekyan’s candidacy was also nominated for the vacant position of member of the Corruption Prevention Commission by the decision of the Competition Council.

The biographical data and work activities of the latter were presented by the member of the Competition Council Arusyak Julhakyan. According to her information, on June 7, the interview phase of the competition announced for the vacancy of the Corruption Prevention Commission was conducted, during which Vagharsh Aghabekyan, having received the maximum points, was recognized as the winner, which was the basis for presenting his candidacy to the National Assembly.

Vagharsh Aghabekyan underlined that he has rich and multifaceted work experience. “I am familiar with the fight against corruption-related crimes both by working in the law enforcement system and by being part of political society.

The Chair of the Counting Commission of the National Assembly Narek Babayan said that none of the 107 deputies participated in the voting, therefore there were no ballots in the ballot box.

Thus, the candidates were not elected.
