The RA NA Vice-President Hakob Arshakyan met with the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Martin Chungong within the framework of the High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development Goals at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The NA Vice President presented the regional developments, the current challenges, as well as the problems regarding the return of the captives and other persons being held in Azerbaijan.
“The Republic of Armenia believes that the strong democratic state, where the human rights and the rule of law are at the core, then it is a big precondition for ensuring the confrontation of the state and the society against numerous challenges and crises,” Hakob Arshakyan noted.
Highly assessing the international colleagues’ efforts in promoting the dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the NA Vice President also valued Martin Chungong’s activity in that respect.

The latter shared his good impressions about the visit to Armenia, as well as touched upon the Tenth IPU Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union to be held in Armenia in September.
“The parliament of Armenia is the youngest in the world, and I am glad that the Tenth IPU Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union will be held in Armenia,” he noted.
The Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union expressed his support to the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan and added that the Inter-Parliamentary Union will make efforts for developing the process.
At the end of the meeting Martin Chungong stated that the cooperation between the RA National Assembly and the Inter-Parliamentary Union is encouraging, the Armenian MPs are actively engaged in the work of different bodies.
