The scene during Artur Aleksanyan’s competition was indescribable. Although the people of Gyumri were confident that their champion would never lose, it was still noticeable that they were restless. Mayor Vardges Samsonyan was frozen for a moment. Seconds later, there were shouts and chants of “Arthur, Arthur!” and such a noise that no single word could be heard anymore. Joy and excitement were mixed.
Today, on August 7th, from the same square, they will watch the final competition of the champion, who will fight for his second Olympic title.
