According to the Committee for the Defense of Armenian Causes, the incident occurred on September 29 during a match between the French-Turkish football club “Turquoise” and the French-Armenian team “Homenetmen (Armenian General Gymnastic Union).”
The Armenian club won 2-0, which provoked anger among the Turkish fans, who stormed the field armed with knives. Police intervened, and the game was halted. Several injured players were taken to the hospital.
