EU NEIGHBOURS east. The community of Areni, in the Vayots Dzor region of Armenia, has installed 78 solar-powered street lights, thanks to the EU-funded EU4Dialogue project.
The lights cover two streets in the village and a two-kilometer stretch of the North-South highway, reducing energy costs, enhancing road safety, and boosting eco-tourism.
“This project demonstrates how we can combine innovation with local needs to create tangible improvements in people’s lives,” said Anna Gyurjyan, UNDP Socio-Economic Portfolio Manager․ She added that such initiatives not only reduce carbon emissions but also empower communities by making them active participants in shaping a greener and more peaceful future.
‘EU4Dialogue: Support to Conflict Transformation in the South Caucasus and the Republic of Moldova’ is a joint initiative of the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) under the broader EU-funded EU4Dialogue programme. The project aims to build a durable foundation for conflict transformation by improving socio-economic conditions and human security for conflict-affected communities.
