“The amendments and addenda to the Law On Food Safety are aimed at protecting human health, as well as preventing actions that mislead consumers,” the RA Deputy Minister of Economy Tatevik Sargsyan said this.
As the rapporteur informed, in our country, food chain operators (except for those engaged in the sale and itinerant trade of agricultural products and agricultural animals, and producers of biological vaccines used in the field of veterinary medicine) will from now on, along with the information prescribed by law, submit to the food chain operators registration and registry body for registration, information on the procedures based on the principles of the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) system and an approved plan, which is a proof that the company is responsible for food safety and applies advanced safety and quality management tools in its enterprise, which will contribute to the enterprise in diversifying markets.
The abovementioned provision will enter into force from January 1, 2027.
“At the same time, it is necessary to make an amendment to Article 9 of the law, namely, to establish a regulation on the country of animal breeding when receiving raw materials and products of local slaughterhouse origin, since there is currently a legislative gap, which does not allow consumers to distinguish in which country the animal was bred, whether it was obtained from local production or from an imported animal,” the Deputy Minister emphasized and added that after the adoption of the law, necessary amendments will also be made to some legal acts that regulate relations regarding the raw materials and products of animal origin resulting from slaughter.
