On February 12, at the RA NA sitting the debate of the draft law on Launching Accession Process of the Republic of Armenia to the European Union continued.
In their speeches the MPs presented their observations on the Accession Process of the Republic of Armenia to the European Union.
On behalf of the RA NA Armenia Faction the Head of the Faction Seyran Ohanyan noted in his speech that the draft under debate cannot be considered a law from a legal perspective. To his observation, the resolution of the issue of the EU membership requires a referendum, since no other mechanism for membership is envisaged by the Constitution. Seyran Ohanyan informed that the deputies of the faction will not participate in the vote on the bill.
Presenting the point of view of the RA NA Civil Contract Faction, the Head of the Faction Hayk Konjoryan noted that Armenia has an unprecedentedly high level of cooperation with the EU: the EU-Armenia dialogue on visa liberalisation has been launched, Armenia participates in the European Peace Facility, and the EU Civil Mission observers, being deployed in Armenia, significantly contribute to the regional stability. Hayk Konjoryan informed that the Faction will vote in favor of the draft.

In his final speech the Chair of the Standing Committee on European Integration Arman Yeghoyan touched upon the issues and observations voiced during the debate. In particular, speaking about the visa liberalisation, the Committee Chair mentioned that the phenomenon of visa liberalization has no relation to the EU accession process.
The authorized representative of the initiative group, Artak Zeynalyan also addressed the questions and observations raised in his final speech. He noted that the draft law was brought forward so that Armenia could express its political will to move towards the EU. “And this process is irreversible, the people are in favor of this,” Artak Zeynalyan concluded.
