On March 7, the RA NA Deputy Chair received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federative Republic of Brazil to our country Fabio Vaz Pitaluga.

Welcoming the Ambassador in the parliament, Hakob Arshakyan noted that the geographical distance between Armenia and Brazil had not been an obstacle to the establishment of strong friendship between the countries.

According to the NA Vice President, friendly relations based on respect and mutual trust have been established between the two countries. “We highlight the development of diverse ties with Brazil, one of the world’s leading countries in political and economic terms,” Hakob Arshakyan underscored, adding that the resident embassies in the two states play an important role in strengthening the ties.

Speaking about the deepening of inter-parliamentary cooperation, the NA Deputy Speaker noted that the role of friendship groups is significant in this regard. In this context, the sides emphasized the importance of frequent mutual visits of parliamentarians.

In the context of deepening bilateral relations, also valuing the expansion of the legal and contractual sphere, Hakob Arshakyan noted that it can serve as a solid basis for the development of close trade and economic cooperation.

“Armenia is also interested in further deepening cooperation in the fields of education, culture, agriculture, sports, tourism, social, scientific and technical fields,” the NA Vice President underlined, expressing the opinion that there is a significant potential for expanding cooperation in these areas.

Hakob Arshakyan highly appreciated the effective cooperation of the two countries in international organizations.

Touching upon the situation and challenges in the South Caucasus, the NA Vice President noted that establishing peace in our region is a priority for the Government of Armenia.

The member of the NA Armenia-Brazil Friendship Group and the Chair of the Standing Committee on Health Care Arsen Torosyan, who was present at the meeting, spoke about the Crossroads of Peace project initiated by the Government of Armenia, emphasizing that the aim of the project is to develop regional communications based on the principles of sovereignty, reciprocity and equality.

The Armenian parliamentarians touched upon the work being carried out towards signing a peace treaty with Azerbaijan, and raised the issue of Armenian captives and other persons held in Azerbaijan.

Expressing gratitude for the reception, Fabio Vaz Pitaluga emphasized the importance of developing inter-parliamentary ties and implementing joint projects to deepen cooperation in various fields.
