Zareh Sinanyan, the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, was on a working visit to the United States from April 4 to 7.
During his visit, the High Commissioner participated in, “On the Cutting Edge of Science and Tech: California and Armenia Together,” a conference organized by the USC Dornsife Institute of Armenian Studies and the Armenian Society of Fellows (ASOF).
The event opened with remarks by Dr. Shushan Karapetian, Director of the USC Institute of Armenian Studies, and former California State Senator Anthony Portantino. It brought together a distinguished group of Armenian scientists from leading institutions, including Stanford University, the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), and Harvey Mudd College.

Throughout the conference, speakers emphasized the growing importance of strengthening ties between the Armenian scientific community in California and Armenia, while also highlighting the critical role of universities in addressing global challenges. Discussions focused on expanding California–Armenia collaboration-particularly in the field of technological innovation and exploring joint initiatives that would bring mutual benefits to both communities.
As part of the conference, High Commissioner Sinanyan also participated in a closed-door session, where participants discussed potential future projects, outlined visions for deeper cooperation, and addressed the challenges faced by scientists working across borders. The session focused on enhancing collaboration and building sustainable, long-term partnerships between researchers in Armenia and California.
In his remarks, High Commissioner Sinanyan underscored the strategic importance of deepening bilateral ties within the framework of the California–Armenia Cooperation Agreement. He also highlighted the significance of the U.S.-Armenia Strategic Partnership Charter, signed in January 2025, as a key foundation for advancing Armenia- U.S. relations in the years to come.
