High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs Zareh Sinanyan visited Sofia, Bulgaria, on April 19–20 as part of a working trip, participating in the 25th anniversary celebration of the Euro-Armenian Games.
Also in attendance were Her Excellency Tsovinar Hambardzumyan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Bulgaria, and Artur Hovhannisyan, Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs in Bulgaria and President of the Union of Armenians of Europe.
On April 19, High Commissioner Sinanyan delivered opening remarks at the official launch ceremony of the Games, emphasizing the initiative’s role in fostering unity across the Armenian Diaspora.
“The Euro-Armenian Games are not only a celebration of athletic excellence—they also serve as a powerful platform for bringing together Armenian communities, strengthening connections, and deepening our shared sense of identity,” he said. “This initiative plays a vital role in preserving Armenian heritage and fostering intergenerational unity.”

As part of his visit, the High Commissioner held meetings with Sonia Avakian-Bedrossian, Honorary Chairperson of the AGBU Sofia chapter; Velizar Agopyan, Chair of AGBU Sofia; Sebouh Baghdoyan, Chair of the Executive Board and Diaspora Commissioner for Austria; and Herminé Duzian, Vice Chair of the Executive Board of the Euro-Armenian Games.
He also visited the Armenian National Home in Sofia, where he met with Vardanush Topakbashyan, President of the Coordinating Council of Armenian Organizations in Sofia and Editor-in-Chief of Yerevan weekly.
On April 20, accompanied by members of the local Armenian community and participants of the Games, the High Commissioner attended Easter Mass at the Holy Mother of God Armenian Apostolic Church in Sofia.
