The High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Zareh Sinanyan, is currently on a working visit to the Kingdom of Spain.
As part of his working visit, Zareh Sinanyan, held a series of meetings in Barcelona on April 22.
He met with Hayk Yeghiazaryan, President of the “Hayk” Armenian Union of Barcelona; Tatev Suleyan, Chairperson of the Armenian Cultural Union; and Sarkis Hakobyan, Head of the “Ararat” Armenian Union of Santa Coloma.
During the meeting, they discussed prospects for expanding cooperation with the Armenian community in Spain, strategies to activate community engagement, and the involvement of Diaspora organizations in nation-building initiatives.
Later, the High Commissioner visited Barcelona City Hall, where he met with Sara Belbeida Bedoui, Commissioner for Citizen Relations, Cultural and Religious Diversity of the Municipality.
In his remarks, Mr. Sinanyan emphasized the importance of enhancing Armenian-Spanish dialogue and deepening multi-sectoral cooperation. He noted that the Armenian community of Barcelona is the largest in Spain and serves as a unique bridge connecting Armenia and Spain—particularly Yerevan and Barcelona.

He also mentioned that, during these days, Armenians and their friends across the world are commemorating the victims of the Armenian Genocide perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire in 1915. He expressed gratitude to the City Hall and City Council of Barcelona for recognizing the Armenian Genocide.
On the same day, the High Commissioner visited the Armenian Home of Barcelona, where he met with Armenian youth and community activists.
He delivered a presentation about the activities and programs of the Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, with a special emphasis on the upcoming Second National Armenian Youth Forum scheduled for August 5–7, 2025.
Mr. Sinanyan also addressed questions raised by attendees, highlighting the importance of constructive dialogue and continued cooperation with the Diaspora.
