On April 24, an event dedicated to the 110th commemoration of the Armenian Genocide was held at the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in the United States. Representatives of the US Department of State, other state administration bodies, as well as the diplomatic corps, international organizations, academic circles, and the Armenian community members attended the event.
The event began with a ceremony of commemoration of the holy martyrs of the Armenian Genocide at the khachkar located in the courtyard of the embassy and a prayer, which was offered by the spiritual pastor of the St. Astvatsatsin Armenian Apostolic Church in Washington, Father Hovsep Karapetyan. A flower-laying ceremony followed the prayer.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the United States, Lilit Makunts delivered remarks. Lilia and Alexandra Yaralyan, who are working on their doctoral papers on the life and work of the renowned Armenian composer Komitas Vardapet performed selected pieces of his music.
At the end of the event, Armenian-American composer and songwriter Emily Simonian presented the story of her family, who survived the Armenian Genocide.
