On April 23-24, the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Zareh Sinanyan, paid a working visit to Alicante, Spain.
As part of the visit, Mr. Sinanyan met with Hasmik Torosyan-Grigoryan, Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs in Spain. The discussion focused on enhancing the effective utilization of the Armenian community’s potential in Alicante and increasing youth engagement in community activities.
On April 24, the High Commissioner participated in a memorial event dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, held near the Armenian khachkar (cross-stone) in Alicante. In his speech, Mr. Sinanyan highlighted the pivotal role of the Diaspora in achieving international recognition of the Genocide and laid flowers in memory of its innocent victims.
The event was also attended by Javier Poladian, AGBU Education Program Coordinator from Montevideo, Uruguay; Romina Pakhradon, a high school student and winner of an educational contest on the Armenian Genocide in Uruguay; local government officials; and over 100 members of the community.
Later that evening, Mr. Sinanyan met with Armenian youth from Alicante. He presented the programs and initiatives of the Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs and spoke about the upcoming Second National Armenian Youth Forum, to be held on August 5-7, 2025, in Yerevan. He emphasized the importance of Diaspora youth participation, noting its key role in strengthening Armenia-Diaspora ties and revitalizing community life.

The meeting concluded with a Q&A session, during which the youth raised questions and discussed future opportunities for cooperation with the Office.
