Zareh Sinanyan participated in a conference titled “The Armenian People: Yesterday and Today” at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Strasbourg

On April 26, within the framework of his working visit to France’s Grand Est region, the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Zareh Sinanyan, participated in a conference titled “The Armenian People: Yesterday and Today” at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Strasbourg.

The event was organized by the “Diaspora Arménienne du Grand Est” Association as part of the “Map of Memory” festival.

In his keynote address, the High Commissioner spoke about the distinct characteristics of the Armenian Diaspora, the challenges of preserving national identity abroad, the development of Armenian culture, the importance of transmitting Armenian values across generations, and avenues for strengthening Armenia–Diaspora cooperation. He specifically emphasized the Diaspora’s crucial role in reinforcing pan-Armenian unity.

Other speakers included Dr. Nicolas Tatessian, Professor of History at the University of Strasbourg and Associate Researcher at UMR Arche, and Corinne Zarzavatdjian, artist, actress, and writer.
The event was attended by Veronique Bertholle, Deputy Mayor of Strasbourg for International Relations, as well as representatives of the city authorities and over 50 members of the Armenian community.
Later that day, High Commissioner took part in the opening ceremony of the “Map of Memory” exhibition, where he also delivered remarks.

In his speech, the High Commissioner underscored the importance of cultural initiatives in preserving Armenian identity and highlighted the role of art in transmitting historical memory.
The exhibition was officially opened by Marina Lafay, Deputy Mayor of Strasbourg. It showcased the works of Armenian artists from Armenia, France, and the Grand Est region, reflecting the Armenian past and present through contemporary forms of expression.

At the conclusion of the event, the High Commissioner presented certificates of appreciation to volunteers who contributed to the organization of the “Map of Memory” festival, commending their dedication and invaluable support in ensuring the event’s success.
