Report on RA Prosecutor’s Office 2024 Activities under Debate

On May 8, the National Assembly continued its regular sittings. The RA Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan submitted to the Parliament for debate the report on the activities of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Armenia for 2024, which was previously debated at the sitting of the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs.

Anna Vardapetyan reported that in 2024, 38.058 criminal proceedings were completed by the preliminary investigation bodies. In 2023, 33.396 criminal proceedings were completed with the report submitted. “Of the above-mentioned cases, 11.801, involving 13.179 persons, were sent to court with an indictment. Let me remind you that in 2023 there were 8393, involving 10.115 persons. The combination of numbers shows that in 2024, 4662 or 14% more criminal proceedings were concluded than in 2023, and of these, 3408 or 40.6 more criminal proceedings were submitted to the court with an indictment. 1264 or 5.1% more criminal proceedings were shortened. 93.5% more cases were examined and completed in court than in 2023, and acquittals were issued in only 1.8% of the cases completed in court,” the RA Prosecutor General said.

According to the report, 40.232 criminal cases were recorded in 2024, of which 18.397 were in Yerevan. There were 20.231 cases in 2023. Compared to the previous year, crime cases decreased by 434 or 1.1%.

In 2024, an increase in less serious and particularly serious crimes was recorded. At the same time, cases of medium and serious crimes decreased.

Compared to 2023, the cases of misdemeanors increased by 337 or 1.7%: in 2023 – 20.024 cases, in 2024 – 20.361 cases.

The Prosecutor General answered the MPs’ questions.

It should be noted that in accordance with the Constitutional Law the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly, the report was taken into consideration.

The debate on the report will continue at the NA sitting on May 12.
