Report on RA Investigative Committee for 2024 is under debate

During 2024, 69,415 reports were received by the sub-divisions of the Investigative Committee, of which 58,085 were initiated, and 11,330 were not initiated. Another 524 criminal proceedings were initiated within the framework of the preliminary investigation of other criminal proceedings.

During the reporting period, 207,132 criminal proceedings were examined, compared to 184,018 the previous year, meaning the number of criminal proceedings increased by 23,114 or 12.5 percent.

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee Artur Poghosyan presented this digital picture, submitting the report on the activities of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia for 2024.

Of the 207,132 criminal proceedings mentioned, 140,001 have been transferred since 2023. 58,609 criminal proceedings were initiated by the Committee’s bodies and sub-divisions (54,190 in 2023), 1,757 were partially separated and sent to another body (3,724 in 2023), 18 were initiated for medical coercion, the indictment was not confirmed in 220 criminal proceedings and was returned to preliminary investigation (210 in 2023). The decision to terminate was not confirmed in 693 criminal proceedings and was returned to preliminary investigation (535 in 2023).

Along with the increase in proceedings, the average workload of investigators has also increased. During 2024, the average workload of one investigator amounted to 319 criminal proceedings, compared to 304 in 2023, i.e. it increased by 15 proceedings or 4.9 percent.

Out of 207,132 criminal proceedings, 117,093 are proceedings for which evidentiary and procedural actions were completed in previous years (hereinafter referred to as passive).

Without accounting for 117,093 passive proceedings in previous years and 4,698 criminal proceedings sent between the committee’s departments, 85,341 criminal proceedings were investigated during 2024, compared to 77,740 in the same period of the previous year, i.e. it increased by 7,601 proceedings or 9 percent.
