On May 19, the RA NA President Alen Simonyan received the delegation led by the President of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus Annita Demetriou.
Underscoring the deepening cooperation between the two countries, Alen Simonyan informed his colleague about the desire to raise bilateral friendly relations to a new, functional level, proposing to consider the signing of the Strategic Partnership Agreement between Armenia and Cyprus, which, in turn, welcomed the President of the House of Representatives of Cyprus. The parties also touched upon issues regarding the inter-parliamentary cooperation and other topics of mutual interest. A separate reference was made to the activities of the Armenian community of Cyprus and the key role in fraternal relations between the two countries.
The sides also discussed the regional problems, in that context underlining the necessity of signing the Agreement already agreed upon between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Alen Simonyan drew his colleague’s attention to the problem of the captives being in Azerbaijan and the illegally held persons, also emphasizing the issue of the missing servicemen.
After the meeting in an enlarged format, Alen Simonyan and Annita Demetriou held a joint press conference. The meeting of the leaders of the parliaments ended with a symbolic tree planting.
