Strasbourg, 22.05.2025 – The President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, Marc Cools, will pay an official visit to Armenia on 26-27 May 2025. The President will participate in high-level panel discussions of the Yerevan Dialogue Forum, where he will underline that strong and effective local and regional governments are a cornerstone of European democracy and will play a key role in the New Democratic Pact for Europe.
During his visit, the President will hold bilateral meetings with the President of the Republic of Armenia, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, and the Mayor of Yerevan. The exchanges will offer an opportunity to discuss preparations for the new law on local self-government and how to encourage democratic innovation and engage citizens and restore their trust in democracy. The visit will serve to reaffirm the Council of Europe’s continued support to democratic reforms in Armenia and efforts to reinforce stability at the regional level.
