Every New Insult Is a “Test”

June 02,2025 10:59

The current government is not fighting only against the Armenian Apostolic Church. There will always be conformist bishops who, upon seeing Pashinyan, will fawn over him—as recently happened in one of the Baltic countries.

Nor is the government fighting only against intellectuals. Dozens, if not hundreds, of educated individuals serve Pashinyan in various commissions and committees, “justifying” their work by claiming they are serving the state. In the coming days, the Prime Minister will likely visit Yerevan State University, where professors and associate professors will listen with solemn expressions and nod thoughtfully at his remarks.

But the struggle for power, as the saying goes, is “not against, but for”—and in this case, the “positive goal” is nothing less than the complete degeneration of society. The adoration of tens of thousands for “Doge” is one symptom of that decay. Vardan Ghukasyan may now be isolated in the United States, but his electorate remains, masterless. The government’s current task is to win over that base. More importantly, to test just how far the cultural, intellectual, and moral standards of Armenians have fallen.

These vulgarities and insults aren’t random outbursts from a madman—they are deliberate “tests” designed to measure the depth of our decline. Suppose someone says “scum,” “louse”—what happens next? Civil Contract members applaud. Court intellectuals justify it. Pro-government NGOs stay silent. Pashinyan’s fans—mostly overly zealous women—rejoice.

So, on to the next phase: a sexual insult. I’m sure the same response will follow. And so, the downward spiral continues.

Why does Pashinyan need a demoralized, humiliated, and ignorant (not simply uneducated) society? The answer is obvious: to continue making irrational, unjustified concessions to Aliyev and still remain in power.

…Let us remember, on April 24, why we honor the memory of the victims of the Genocide.
