On March 18, 2025, the General Department of Investigation of Crimes against the State, Fundamentals of the Constitutional Order and Public Security of the RA Investigative Committee received a proper report from the Senior Operations Officer of the Main Directorate of Protection of Constitutional Order and Fight against Terrorism of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, stating that Vazgen Galstanyan, Artur Sargsyan, Movses Sharbatyan, Hayk Shahnazaryan, Tigran Topalyan, Igor Sargsyan, and other individuals, in a preliminary agreement, prepared to commit terrorism and usurp power between July 2024 and March 14, 2025. This was stated by the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia Anna Vardapetyan during the extraordinary session of the National Assembly on July 7, presenting the petition to initiate public criminal prosecution against the RA NA deputy Artur Sargsyan.
According to the Prosecutor General, the investigation has yielded sufficient facts that provide grounds for instituting public criminal prosecution against the deputy of the RA NA of the eighth convocation Artur Sargsyan, for the fact that he, together with a group of persons, prepared terrorism and usurpation of power. “In order to implement their criminal goal of seizing power in the RA, Artur Sargsyan, Vazgen Galstanyan and other members of the criminal group planned to commit terrorism, namely, socially dangerous acts accompanied by the threat of depriving civilians of life, causing severe or moderate harm to health, large-scale property damage and other grave consequences,” Anna Vardapetyan noted.
The Prosecutor General has requested consent to instigate public criminal prosecution against the deputy of the RA NA of the eighth convocation Artur Sargsyan.
