Did Defeat Create Our Sovereignty?

September 03,2025 11:00

Once, when we were a victorious country—when we had liberated Artsakh and could speak to Azerbaijanis with our heads held high—our state supposedly existed for others (for Russia), and thanks to others. Now, after the shameful defeat and the loss of Artsakh, we are told that our country exists thanks to its citizens, for its citizens.

How fortunate, then, that we lost to Azerbaijan! Otherwise, we would have remained “dependent on others.” But no, it wasn’t luck. We have such a wise leader who did not leave things to chance. He deliberately, consciously led the country to defeat in order to bring us to this radiant present, where we depend on no one. The Prime Minister’s notes and statements, in this spirit, are in fact a special message of gratitude to Aliyev and Erdoğan for defeating and humiliating us—with Pashinyan’s help—for it was this humiliation that allegedly opened the door to our sovereignty.

In reality, of course, the idea that defeat makes a country powerful and sovereign runs against both logic and historical experience. History teaches precisely the opposite: the one who defeats you becomes the one you depend on, because he dictates the conditions of your survival. That is exactly what is happening today with the so-called “real Armenia.”

…And meanwhile, they are busy arresting a woman accused of spying for Azerbaijan—instead of thanking her for working with our new “liberator from Russia.”
