On 5 September, the United Nations General Assembly adopted by consensus the resolution on the “Tenth anniversary of the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of This Crime,” tabled by Armenia.
The resolution calls for convening a high-level thematic meeting of the UN General Assembly to mark the tenth anniversary of this International Day, with the aim of galvanizing accelerated efforts toward the prevention and punishment of genocide, while emphasizing the importance of combating this crime.
Co-sponsored by the Member States from all five UN regional groups, the resolution reflects broad support and demonstrates a shared commitment to strengthening the prevention agenda.
Armenia’s initiative represents a significant step in advancing the international efforts to prevent genocide and mass atrocities, while consolidating global action against this crime.
