On September 26, Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Robert Abisoghomonyan delivered opening remarks at the online meeting marking the launch of negotiations of the “123 Agreement” between the Governments of Armenia and the United States on cooperation in peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
At the launching event opening remarks were also delivered by U.S. Department of State Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Security Policy Gonzalo Suarez, as well as Ambassador of Armenia to the United States Narek Mkrtchyan and Ambassador of the United States to Armenia Kristina Kvien.
In his remarks, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia reiterated that the safe and secure use of nuclear energy for peaceful uses remains a priority for Armenia and emphasized the continued commitment of Armenia to the principles of the global nuclear non-proliferation regime.
The parties commended that following the signing of the Memoranda of Understandings between the Governments of Armenia and the US in Washington on August 8, practical steps are now being taken towards its implementation.
