At the UNGA80 6th Committee meeting under agenda item “Crimes against humanity” Ms. Varduhi Melikyan, Counsellor of the Mission of Armenia referred to the growing number of the crimes against humanity in recent years and the challenges for addressing the accountability. Effective functioning of the International Courts and the progressive development of international humanitarian law have been emphasized.
Prevention efforts provide a robust framework for addressing key issues and strengthening synergies across the UN system in the context of maintaining peace and security. The prevention of genocide and other atrocity crimes has long been the cornerstone of Armenia’s foreign policy. In this context Armenia highlighted the 5th Global Forum on the Crime of Genocide held in Yerevan last December, accession to the Global Initiative to Galvanize Political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law and the 2025 General Assembly Resolution to convene a High-Level meeting to mark the 10th Anniversary of the International Day of Genocide.
