Good evening to the people who love us very much, and especially to those who do not. Today I learned that the regime, aspiring to the “glory” of Idi Amin, has now decided to launch a savage attack against the Journalists’ Union of Armenia. The regime wants to seize the property of the Journalists’ Union of Armenia and, in essence, following the rules of the genre, will bring it to its logical conclusion. This mode of operation by the regime of hyenas is not surprising or unexpected for me, just as, I am sure, it is not surprising for the president of the Journalists’ Union of Armenia, experienced journalist Satik Seyranyan, about which she recently made a detailed post. The issue here is not the Journalists’ Union, Satik Seyranyan, or the other persecuted media outlets. The issue here is applying an effective toolkit to combat the crimes committed by the regime against the press and free speech.
The world must be informed daily about the extremely authoritarian mores prevailing in our country. As much as the West has “closed its eyes, ears, and mouth,” it must be forced to hear, see, and react to the ongoing monstrosities.
Expressing my full solidarity and support for the Journalists’ Union of Armenia and its president, Satik Seyranyan, I inform you that the AntiFake.am team is planning to launch a broad campaign starting next week to alert international bodies about what is happening and to elicit an opinion from them. I call upon and ask our supporters in Western countries to organize pickets (even small ones) in front of the relevant government agencies in those countries, to persistently do everything possible so that these people are informed and express their opinion on this brazen campaign against human rights and freedom of speech in Armenia. I am confident that, at least for the future, the aforementioned toolkit will be effective (so that they cannot later say, “we did not know”).
This impunity on the part of the regime cannot continue for long, and at some point, “the spring will snap.” The head of the regime knows this better than anyone, and it is precisely this awareness that is the reason for his terror of speech.
