November 19, Dilijan: Armenian architect Sargis Sargsyan, working within the internationally acclaimed Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) architectural firm, has won the competition for the design of the new Hamburg State Opera in Germany. As co-lead of the winning proposal, Sargsyan played a key role in shaping a project distinguished by its bold, contemporary, and innovative architectural vision.

Notably, the architect who succeeded in one of the world’s most prestigious international competitions is also investing his expertise in Armenia. Together with the Proforma architectural bureau, he developed the concept for the Mountain Village residential complex in Dilijan, harmoniously integrating advanced and green technologies, high ecological standards, and forward-thinking architectural solutions with the local landscape and cultural traditions.

“Sargis Sargsyan’s success once again demonstrates that within our ecosystem, quality, innovation, and respect for heritage remain at the forefront. The Mountain Village initiative was launched by Ruben Vardanyan and Veronika Zonabend, who are also the founders of UWC Dilijan College. Bringing the best global technologies and expertise to Armenia has always been central to their mission. It is worth noting that the school’s building has earned Armenia international recognition, winning five major global awards in architecture, construction, and infrastructure. We are confident that Mountain Village will likewise play a significant role in enhancing Dilijan’s appeal,” said Gleb Groshenko, the project lead.
