On 27–28 January, Ambassador Paruyr Hovhannisyan, Permanent Representative of Armenia to the United Nations, chaired the 2026 ECOSOC Coordination Segment as Vice-President of the Economic and Social Council. As ECOSOC marks its 80th anniversary, discussions reaffirmed that coordination is no longer optional, but a measure of collective credibility and effectiveness.
Deliberations examined how ECOSOC can better connect peace, development, human rights and humanitarian action, translate global commitments into support for Member States, and strengthen coherence, foresight and accountability toward the final stretch of the 2030 Agenda.
The message was clear: strengthening ECOSOC is within reach through clearer guidance, stronger oversight, inclusive stakeholder engagement and a focus on delivery and results.
The dialogue will continue as part of the UN80 process and the review of ECOSOC and the HLPF.
