Message of the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit Manasyan, on the occasion of World Down Syndrome Day
“March 21 – the day of “Sunshine People” – is an important occasion to once again emphasize that respect for human dignity, the guarantee of equality, and the building of an inclusive society are the foundations of a rule-of-law state.
Persons with Down syndrome are equal members of our society, with their own dreams and potential.
In this context, it is the obligation of the state to ensure real opportunities for each of them to participate effectively in all spheres of life, as well as to guarantee the unhindered exercise of their right to independent living and inclusion in the community.

We must all remember that inclusion begins with our attitudes and is reflected in our actions.
In this regard, I particularly value the invaluable work of all stakeholders whose dedication and efforts contribute to the full inclusion and self-realization of “Sunshine people”.
I reaffirm our commitment to strengthening and promoting effective mechanisms for the protection of human rights and to creating a tolerant and responsible environment.
