Armenia Reaffirms Commitment to Indigenous Peoples’ Rights at 25th Session of UN Permanent Forum

At the 25th session of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, the delegation of Armenia reaffirmed its commitment to the promotion and protection of the rights of Indigenous Peoples, in line with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

The delegation underscored the crucial role of Indigenous Peoples’ traditional knowledge and practices in the conservation of biodiversity. Looking ahead to the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), to be held in Armenia in October 2026, it was mentioned that a key priority of the Armenian Presidency will be to ensure an inclusive and participatory conference, with the full and meaningful engagement of all stakeholders, including Indigenous Peoples.

It was further emphasized that Armenia, as the incoming Presidency of COP17, is committed to facilitating constructive and result-oriented deliberations on the modus operandi of the Subsidiary Body on Article 8(j) and Other Provisions related to Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (SB8J).
