On July 1, the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Zareh Sinanyan, received Levon Afeyan, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Armenia in the Canadian province of Quebec, and Oscar Tatosian, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Armenia in the U.S. state of Illinois and Co-Chair of the Armenian Assembly of America.
During the meeting, the participants discussed a range of issues related to Armenia–Diaspora cooperation, Armenian communities in the United States and Canada, the recent parliamentary elections in Armenia, as well as current and future priorities for Armenia–Diaspora engagement.
The guests congratulated the High Commissioner and the Government of the Republic of Armenia on the successful conduct of free and democratic elections and the victory of the ruling party. They emphasized the significance of the choice made by the Armenian people and the citizens of the Republic of Armenia, as well as the continued strengthening of democratic values in the country through both the parliamentary elections and the broader reform process underway across various sectors.
The discussion also covered the expansion of Armenia–Diaspora business ties, efforts to counter disinformation within Diaspora communities, public awareness initiatives related to the reforms being implemented in Armenia, as well as existing challenges and potential ways to address them.
The meeting also focused on opportunities to strengthen Armenia–Diaspora business cooperation, Armenia’s investment climate, opportunities across various sectors of the economy, and mechanisms to encourage greater engagement by Diaspora Armenian entrepreneurs and investors. The participants underscored the importance of close cooperation between state institutions and Diaspora organizations to promote investment, as well as targeted outreach highlighting Armenia’s economic potential and ongoing reforms.
The High Commissioner presented the Office’s ongoing initiatives and programs, emphasizing the importance of raising awareness of these efforts and encouraging the active participation of Diaspora organizations.
The meeting concluded with an exchange on the importance of reciprocal visits by professional groups from the Diaspora and representatives of the Government of the Republic of Armenia, as well as the implementation of joint programs and initiatives. The participants expressed their readiness to further strengthen cooperation.
