While Pashinyan tries to convince the Armenian public that the aspirations of the Azerbaijani side are a “fabrication,” both regarding the resettlement of 300,000 Azeri families and the concept of “Western Azerbaijan,” Aliyev has already created practical prerequisites to realize the return of the Azerbaijanis.
Namely: a) he has founded and funded an entity called the “Western Azerbaijan Community;” b) he insists that Armenia has no alternative but to agree to the return of 300,000 Azerbaijanis; c) he pushes the return program forward by organizing meetings between foreign officials visiting Azerbaijan and the council of the “Western Azerbaijan Community;” d) he has organized conferences in many countries around the world, including the week before last inside the U.S. Congress building. Furthermore, Aliyev has brought an even weightier initiative to life: he has forwarded two appeals from the “Western Azerbaijan Community” to all UN member states to secure the international community’s support for his resettlement plan.
To all of this, however, the resistance from the official Armenian side is zero, which means there is no objection. Is there really none…?
