Anahit Manasyan, Nenad Vujić discuss human rights protection and justice

The working visit of the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit Manasyan, to the Republic of Serbia has commenced.

On October 5, as part of the visit, Ms. Anahit Manasyan met with Mr. Nenad Vujić, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Serbia.

The meeting focused on issues related to human rights protection and justice, with particular attention to ensuring the rights of persons deprived of their liberty and improving penitentiary systems.

The parties exchanged views on the conditions of detention of persons deprived of their liberty and the building conditions of penitentiary institutions in the two countries, as well as on the proper protection of human rights in closed institutions.

Particular attention was also paid to issues concerning the protection of children’s rights and human rights education.

Ms. Anahit Manasyan presented the mandate and main areas of activity of the Human Rights Defender’s Office, also providing detailed information on the activities of the Human Rights Defender as the National Preventive Mechanism, monitoring visits conducted to closed institutions and the work carried out to protect the rights of persons deprived of their liberty.

At the end of the meeting, the parties emphasized the importance of exchanging professional experience and expressed their readiness to continue cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
