The authority is in panic.
The negotiations of the opposition representatives on the unified front for the upcoming presidential elections are still on. The representatives of the negotiations which were kicked off in “Metelitsa” cafй in the end of July are the following oppositionist: Artashes Geghamyan, Stepan Demirchyan, Arthur Baghdasaryan, Ararat Zurabyan, “Heritage” political secretary Vardan Khachatryan, Paruyr Hayrikyan, Ashot Manucharyan. These negotiations are held in parallel with the negotiations on unification of several opposition parties. In this case are the negotiations in “Metelitsa” effective? In asnwer to our question, one of the initiators, who didn\’t want to give his name, assured: “There are very powerful circumstances, which are out of people\’s wish but are forced to be joint actions of the opposition”. In his opinion, the negotiations round those actions will be effective and the opposition will be unified if there aren\’t mistakes in the actions of 1-2 persons. I mean such a unification which won\’t allow the authority to persist, and during of which the opposition party will have an overwhelming majority towards the authority”.
Other participants of negotiations also confirm that the intentions of their meetings are prospective, but there is no certainty for the unified candidate. That certainty depends on those key persons\’ fidelity to principles. Besides neither Artashes Geghamyan nor Stepan Demirchyan and nor Arthur Baghdasaryan are among those key persons. “You might consider the above-mentioned persons as decision makers if it referred to the processes happened 5 years ago”, the participants of the negotiations declared and refused to give the names of key persons.
We tried to find out whether Levon Ter-Petrosyan is included among the key persons. We got no answer to this response. Instead one of the politicians declared: “The majority of politicians have a clear standpoint for the unified candidate, that\’s why we claim that there are key figures”.
The opposition participants are sure that the “authority is confused, though the authorities want to pretend as if everything has been solved. In reality there is a great panic inside the authority in conjunctions with the process inside the opposition, and that panic is justified.”
