Suren Abrahamyan, the member of “Republic” party who participated in Levon Ter-Petrosyan\’s visits to several regions, says about his nomination.
– While the oppositionists are discussing the format of their participation in the upcoming presidentila elections, whom they will defend, the authorities have clearer idea on this.
– First of all not everything is smooth inside the authority. As I know those persons support Serge Sargsyan who have cursed him in time.
– Give the names of several of them.
– Let\’s not speak about it. Everybody knows them.
Thanks to Serge Sargsyan such a “electoral system” has been formed which doesn\’t deal with the elections at all: they can nominate anyone they want. There are a lot of politicians from the opposition who will win Serge Sargsyan if the presidential elections aren\’t rigged.
– Do you still believe in the possibility of holding fair elections?
– I say IF. But I observe our future according to the capability of solving our country\’s problems. On this ocassion each political figure who worris about the future of our country, may assure that Levon Ter-Petrosyan\’s candidacy is the best solution for the faced problems. He has both political will, and wisdom and experience.
– Anyway, the Armenian attempt of the electoral procedures show that the decisive factors for the results of elections are other. I suggest to turn to those factors separatley to find out your prefered candidate\’s chances to win in the elections. Administrative and financial factor are very decisive for our elections. Do you think that any candidate may compete with the candidate of the authority?
– Each candidate, Levon Ter-Petrosyan as well, will concede the authority candidate, since they coordinate all financial resources and the administrative levers as well; the whole system serves for a person. But there are factors which can neutralize this factor.
– Probably you mean internal support, political and public order. But before speaking about it, let\’s speak about another decisive factor, about foreign support.
– As a RA citizen, I\’m less interested in the factor of foreign support. Since we know what happens when a politician comes to power with the help of foreign powers. Even in case of using this factor, Levon Ter-Petrosyan is more profitable figure because he is predictable for the outside world.
– Let\’s speak about internal support, its political demand. Don\’t you think that “Alternative” initiative, “Republic” Party, besides ANM and “Armat” centre will defend Levon Ter-Petrosyan\’s candidacy. The opposition out of this circle was against Levon Ter-Petrosyan during his rule, so won\’t agree with his candidacy this time, too.
– Frankly speaking, we don\’t know yet whether Mr. Ter-Petrosyan is going to nominate his candidacy. As a citizen, I insist on his return to the policy. And the fact that his name is being circulated in all political circles, proves the political demand of his nomination.
– Several oppositionists assure that though the people are dissatisfied with the current authorities, it is also against the former authorities, and this case Levon Ter-Petrosyan isn\’t considered as an alternative to Serge Sargsyan.
– The possibility of Levon Ter-Petrosyan\’s nomination is being discussed in public circles. Though it isn\’t known yet whether he will nominate his candidacy and whether there are enough politicians who will support his candidacy. If there is no public support, it is the point of process and we will have the true picture in 1-2 months. Let me remind that he has been condemned for 8 years. Though everything was found out that the achievements were more and the cold and dark years had their objective reasons, all these was directly and unfairly connected with the name of the First President.
