Sergey Minasyan. “Whether it would be the second Maindorf or more formal: Kazan/Sochi, is not yet clear.”

Pursuant to the “Caucasus” institute director, and political scientist, Sergey Minasyan, tripartite meeting of presidents of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan held in Sochi showed that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, in general, tends to sign a document – statement on defusing the border tension. As for the rest: willingness to peaceful settlement of the issue, involvement of international community and links and reverse to the UN resolutions, the political scientist also considers them “common” and procedural.

In fact, our interlocutor is not so encouraged by the willingness of Aliyev to sign a document on defuse of the tension. “Whether it would be the second Maindorf or more formal: Kazan/Sochi, is not clear”, voiced his suspicion Sergey Minasyan, in the conversation with Aravot.am.

Recall that at the regular tripartite meeting in Maindorf and Kazan, still years ago, the president of Azerbaijan signed a document ensuring a number of provisions about border security, including the withdrawal of snipers, but it did not change the situation. Several statements by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs and presidents of member states did not contribute to change of the situation either.
