December 04,2014 15:57

British international business consultant explains why investments should be made in Armenia.

“How can one live in the 21st century, in the era of modern technology, and not know about Armenia, the first country that declared Christianity as a state religion? This is really a problem. Why is it so?” this is the first questions asked by Jason White, an international business consultant and Sales Manager of the UK Financial assets, in the conversation with “Aravot”. He was recently discovered Armenia for himself, married an Armenian woman, and the marital relationship brought him to Armenia. The business consultant being in many countries of the world has seen the Noah’s country Armenia with his own eyes, admired the Mountain of Ararat from Khor Virap and has made a comparison to cultural and economic potentials of other countries visited by him. He continues to surprise and worry about that very few people in the world know about Armenia, whereas he, being in many parts of our homeland, has looked at the environment as a business professional and has already singled out more than dozen reasons for making investments in Armenia. He became acquainted with the country’s culture, history and nowadays available possibilities; he thinks that in the event of introducing the country properly, many people in the world would be interested Armenia and making investments, thus also developing the local economy. He was also posted this in one of the social networks, which won the attention of “Aravot”. “People here know several languages: Armenian, Russian, English and still one more language. They are very clever, and you can use this resource,” says he adding that many people here have scientific degrees, which you would not see in other countries, having such labor is very beneficial to any foreign employer. One of the most important conditions, according to the international business consultant, which should especially attract the foreign investors, are the low-paid salaries. The big companies, making investments here, having their branches in in Armenia, would save money, here, they will not have to spend big money on rental of the office space and other expenses, because the prices are much lower than in many other countries.

The British business consultant noted that the latest technologies are especially developing in Armenia, and he thinks that the large companies of the global market, in the event of presenting properly, would be interested in Armenia and the local specialists. “The outsourcing companies have ample opportunities to carry out their activities locally. This is a very good place for telephone services, call centers and administrative work.” Jason White thinks Armenia is an opportunity for foreign investors in the sense that it has joined the Eurasian Union, and this enables them to more easily come out and cooperate with the countries of this Union, such as with business markets of Russia and Kazakhstan, unless, of course, there is accurate legislative arrangements and transparency of documentation.

To our observation that very few people in Armenia are happy with affiliation to this Union, Mr. White responded that he was aware of it, and it is natural, perhaps, the European market was more preferable, but the country leadership have already made their choice, and there is nothing left to do but to try understanding how you can benefit from this situation. Mr. White reminds that the oligarchy plays an important role in the country, and mainly, the monopoly becomes the cause that many become disappointed, do not establish a new business or do not make investments. “Yes, I know about it,” he says and adds that in this case, you need to choose a market, a field, in which the oligarchy has little role to play, and start from there. He also recommends those willing to establish a new business in Armenia to start from a small one, but try to seek partnerships outside. “I have noticed that Armenians do not see any other country outside of Armenia, whereas if you would not work with outside, would not try to cooperate with them, you would fail in any case,” he says. Jason White was impressed by the local culture; he thinks that this is really a tourists-attracting country with its wonderful nature and historical past.

“We have a wonderful weather: sunny and warm people,” he says, adding that this is a clean country and the air is less polluted. In response to our surprise, he says that the air is more polluted in other countries, Armenia is truly an ecologically pure country. “It is also easy to move from place to place in the city. It is a miracle for any European businessman to reach the destination in half an hour. The traffic here is very light.” This time, in response to our question of why he and many other people like him do not know about this country, he answers, “I do not know. Perhaps, it is coming from the Soviet years, being in a composition of a state, is was not distinguished, then, it was so enclosed with its problems that was not properly presented to the world,” he says. White believes that now, it is the time, especially the next year when on the occasion of the Centennial of the Genocide, guests would arrive from the Diaspora and from different sectors, you can seek opportunities for cooperation. In his turn, by his own initiative, he tries to come up with publications in social networks about Armenia, and has felt that people have already become interested in this country; he hopes that the practical results would be visible in the near future.
