Which plan is brilliant?

March 03,2015 13:10

On Sunday, the first President of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s subsequent speech was delivered. First of all, I must say that I think like him on the issue Genocide, and I have said it many times. (To the point, interestingly, who else thinks like that, but keeps silent). However, it is another topic that is worth addressing separately. The main subject of the speech was, of course, the messages, whose addressees were the opposition members who have entered into disagreements with Ter-Petrosyan.

“Headed to Freedom Square with riding the broom from Davalu (message to Aram Zaveni Sargsyan – A.A.), with chanting 1 + 1 march from the lips (to Nikol Pashinyan – A.A.), with Putin’s resignation claim under the breast (to “Free Democrats” and Hayrikyan – A.A.), to be declared as a new pole and sign the Civil contract (again, to Nikol Pashinyan – A.A.) and moving to Baghramyan 26, urge the slogan of the 100th anniversary without the regime (to Zhirair Sefilyan – A.A.). This is a greater plan than the capture of Berlin,” mentioned the first president.

Said wittily with biting sarcasm. Indeed, there is some perversion, particularly in the sense that no one in Armenia claims for Putin’s resignation, but everyone seems to admit that the Kremlin has a huge impact on Armenia’s domestic political life. Otherwise, how we can explain that the representatives of almost all the opposition forces in Armenia do everything to please Putin, run several times in a year to Moscow, meet with fourth-class public officials, and then come and declare that Moscow “has issued its OK” for the regime change.

But, let’s admit that the first president’s irony is completely relevant, there is no opposition in Armenia beyond the ANC, and except for the Congress members, all the rest of the opposition members’ words are nonsense. Then, what is the ANC’s “brilliant plan”? After the 2008 elections, there was no plan until the autumn of 2011, after which the plans emerged. Its essence was as follows: to overthrow a part of oligarchy through the other part of oligarchy.

This plan, in my opinion, was also as absurd as flying on the broom from Davalu. In case of failure (which was more likely), it would lead to strengthening of the government position and solidity of the political regime. In case of success (which was less likely), it would lead to substitution of one group of oligarchs with another, with the same intellectual and moral qualities. In this case, the banditry would remain in its place where it was. Man-change is not a regime-change.

The regime change would happen when the majority of Armenians instead of wishing to quarter the “bad authorities” and waiting for the “good king” to come and feed them well would realize that they need to be changed for having real changes, become decent, law-abiding, discreet and modest. Become an individual citizen rather than “people”. And this takes time.
