“The police behaved pretty quiet, this time also in a competent manner and kept the word and did not use force. The fact remains”, said human right activist Arthur Sakunts in the interview with Aravot.am, referring to the actions taken by the police to vacate Baghramyan Avenue. “Serzh Sargsyan may present this allegedly the result of his being a democrat, but there are the events of June 23, whose perpetrators need to be punished,” added the human right activist.
To the observation of Aravot.am that the fact that the police actions to open Baghramyan Avenue happened without obstacles, so whether this is not a hint that the necessity of this move by the government authorities had matured, Arthur Sakunts said that the effectiveness of closing the Avenue was driven by the effectiveness of those who closed it. “The more effectively the protesters use the classical example of blocking the Street with civil disobedience, the more its closure is driven. We see that the “shift” option to be at work, and to come and carry out a protest after work was not an effective option, moreover, it did not does provide the diversity of the participation. If there is no involvement and attendance issue, it is a restriction.”
This is not a backdating opinion by Sakunts, ha has voiced these estimates during the protests: the involvement of people with a different kind of approach to the solution of this specific issue should not be rejected. The problem, according to him, despite being social, was also obviously political, as it referred to the corruption mechanism at the international level, in which Armenia’s top authorities are also involved. What comes next, in response to our question, the human right activist visualizes as follows: “The agenda of the actions should be clarified, especially their diversity, otherwise we would have situations like this.” But the main outcome that the movement recorded, according to the human right activist, is as follows: “The citizen of Armenia do exists, it is not a material product, but we will feel its consequences later.”
