Sober people have become more

February 11,2016 11:47

Something, however, is changing in our society for the better. In the past three days, in the broadcast and the publications of “Aravot”, I am trying to convince my compatriots that there is no need to be overly excited with “anti-Turkish” statements of Russia’s political elite.  These two countries have problems with each other because of Syria but it is changing in the air and nurse hope that we will also get some “share” in this fight. And, incidentally, taking this opportunity, I would like to once again state that the Kremlin is not going to annul the anti-Armenian Moscow treaty signed with Turkey. Some 5-10 years ago, my this kind of posture would raise stormy complaints, “oh, historic chance”, “oh centuries-old brotherhood,” etc.

Now, there are similar “interjections” too. One of the TV viewers felt upset that we were almost going to return the Kars province with the help of Russians and I prevented it. But fortunately, the majority of readers and TV viewers are adequate people who are perfectly informed why some of the Russian politicians are making such statements.

The problem is not who is right and who is wrong in the Russian-Turkish relations, although it seems to me that the Turkish leadership has displayed a “traditional” guile on this issue. Do you remember last year, in his latest press conference, Putin was speaking of “painful issues” that are discussed with Erdoğan in Antalya in the framework of a conference of 20 countries, and Russian President has made a step forward to the Turkish president. We, Armenians, again with our naive “self-centralism”, thought that the matter is about Karabakh. But if the point were about any known conflict, let’s say about Artsakh, the Kurdish problem or the North Cyprus, then Putin would not talk about it in an upset tone. I tend to agree with the already expressed view that the matter was about non-bombing some armed Turkish tribes in Syria. And, in response to the good will of Russia, Turkey downs the Russian military aircraft and the same armed groups shoot the Russian pilot in the air. This is, indeed, a guile.

But I repeat, these are the Russian-Turkish relations, which have no connection with us. Exactly in the same way, when Turkey and Israel relations are escalated, Knesset began to speak about the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. The same question is raised in the US Congress when Turkey is making a step forward to the interests of America on some matters. Let us once and for all state that nobody but us are interested in the Armenian Cause in itself. During World War I, we have not understood for the known consequences.

… In “Yerkir Nairi” novel by Charents, Mazut Hamo pronounced his “national liberation” speech standing on the casino table.
