The members of Armenian Sisters of the Immaculate Conception Immaculate Conception donated Pope Francis visiting Gyumri sculptor Gagik Gevorgyan’s sculpture called “Orphans”. The sculptor in an interview with us told that he had started to work on the sculpture a few months ago, whereas the idea belonged to the Congregation, “I have carved Armenian orphans having the history of the Armenian Genocide and the theme Genocide in mind. My sculpture depicts characters of a boy and a girl at the age of having the memory of their past challenges and with all these in mind, they can stand up and find their place in life. I have depicted a character of a protector in the expression of the boy to defend his sister and others like him. This was a unique gift to the Pope for his great attention and care to the orphans and homeless. In my opinion, the Pope is the male type of Mother Teresa.” Gagik Gevorgyan said that the Pope liked the gift very much and especially the council underlying.
