The
discussion on "The revolutions of 21st century" theme arranged by the
National Club of Press yesterday turned out just another attempt to understand
why the revolution of Armenian opposition failed. The city soviet chairman
of "Republic" party Albert Bazeyan mentioned preliminary he didn’t consider
himself as a specialist of revolutionary technologies: "We consider us as
a conservative party" and he had come to listen and learn. But neither the
revolutionary ARF and nor the representatives of ANM who indeed realized revolution
in 1988 accepted the invitation. But after the end of the discussion without the
"specialists" of revolution Mr. Bazeyan didn’t know whether he learned
something from that discussion: "I’ll analyze and answer".But the
chairman of "Republic" didn’t remain, as a listener as there were a
lot of questions why they hadn’t managed to realize a revolution. We must mention
that according to the opinion of the administration member of People’s Party Rusan
Khachatrian the word revolution must be used with some limitations: it showed
to the post election activities neither in Armenia, nor Georgia and the Ukraine
as people simply opposed against illegalities. Drawing a parallel between the
Ukrainian and Armenian events Rusan Khachatrian mentioned: "They go to the
same road we went." She noticed later that the "Justice" bloc has
never asked for the assistance from neither the USA nor Russia. Albert Bazeyan
himself mentioned another difference among the activities of these three countries:
"If the military structures of Georgia and the Ukraine stayed passive in
internal political situation and it was declared about it publicly then the collegium
of the Ministry of Defense condemned the activities of opposition and threatened
the members of opposition in Armenia. Another reason was that the activities of
mass media were much more active in those two countries than it was in Armenia
besides our opposition didn’t manage to produce a unified candidate. "Unfortunately
we also have foreign serious problems with our neighbors, Karabakh issue,"-
the city soviet member of People’s party Karapet Hakobian opposed to Mr. Bazeyan’s
this argument saying that Georgia has such kind of two problems and the Ukraine,
too. To "Aravot’s" question whether the small group of people failed
in revolution attempt in the 12-13 night of April Mr. Bazeyan answered: "I
think the gathered people weren’t enough. If the number of gathered people was
15-20 thousand instead of 1500 -2000 the authority perhaps wouldn’t apply for
military forces as the results would be unpredictable."The representatives
of "Justice" bloc asserted their standpoint during the discussion that
they are for changes without blood. The chairman of "Democratic homeland"
Petros Sakeyan mentioned: "If we account the type of present authority we
can’t exclude it theoretically." And the representative of People’s party
Karapet Hakobian declared that we shouldn’t afraid of the bloody results of revolution
if it was necessary for the nation.Anna Israelian
