Today Narek Sargsyan, the Chief Architect of the city of Yerevan and the chairman of the Council of All-Armenian Association of Architects, Constructors and Engineers, filed a resignation at the enlarged meeting of the Council. The resignation wasn’t unexpected only for Hranush Hakobyan, the Minister of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia, whom, as the Minister put it, Narek Sargsyan had asked and offered to honor his request many times. “I don’t ask to honor me, just honor my request”, said Narek Sargsyan seriously. The Council of All-Armenian Association of Architects, Constructors and Engineers honored the request.
From now on the All-Armenian Association of Architects, Constructors and Engineers will have co-chairs – one from the Diaspora and one from Armenia. It was decided today that Vahe Tutunjian and his wife residing in Qatar will coordinate the organization work from the Diaspora and Ashot Grigoryan, director of the National Museum-Institute of Architecture, from Armenia.
Narek Sargsyan’s resignation was unexpected also in the sense that Narek Sargsyan was not criticized in any way. Furthermore, the majority of the architects present praised him. Only Narek Sargsyan himself voiced critique. The Chairman of the All-Armenian Association of Architects, Constructors and Engineers created in 2009 said that the atmosphere of trust between the Diaspora and local architects had not been created yet. Narek Sargsyan said that many years and huge effort was needed to create an atmosphere of trust.
