Karen Andreasyan explains his silence after the violation of the people’s right to freedom of movement on the rally day.
Today “Urbat” (Friday) club hosted Karen Andreasyan, the Human Rights Defender. Aravot.am inquired from Karen why didn’t he respond when the press made public that on the rally day the people’s right to freedom of movement was violated, “I have said lots of times and I repeat that the Human Rights Defender has to be alerted at least once.” In response to our question “is a press publication not an alert?”, the Human Rights Defender said, “A press publication is not an alert for me, applying to me is an alert for me, they can call me on 116 number. If someone thinks that he has problems, but he doesn’t wish to call 116 toll-free number, that case doesn’t exist for me, except for the cases when the person cannot dial the number, is disabled or is in such a health, psychological or financial condition that he isn’t able to apply.” We tried to clarify again whether a press publication was nothing to him, “You are trying to distort my words now. A press publication is not grounds for me to launch legal action. A press publication is an important source of information for me, I realize some issues through that. For launching legal action, I need only a phone call on 116 number.”
Shortly afterwards the Human Right Defender assured that he had understood the question incorrectly, in reality he had gotten 3 complaints on the rally day that number 267, 261 and 259 buses and minibuses drove one-way on the Abovyan -Yerevan route, only from Yerevan to Abovyan, “When I got the first alert, we sent a letter to the Ministry of Transport and Communication and immediately got an answer that it had really happened, they had made a warning, I made a statement in that regard. Then I received an application and a call from ‘A1+’, it was clarified once again that the alert was accurate, we recorded that the route was operating one-way and applied to the respective body for clarifications. Now we are waiting for the ministry’s response.”
