Political scientists expressed opinions in regard to Haykakan Zhamanak journalist Hayk Gevorgyan’s arrest at the Union of Political Scientists today. “We express our concern. We will not rush into expressing opinions, because we have to find out the details, but whatever happened, it doesn’t matter, if a famous journalist is at issue, administering some punishments to him cannot help but have an effect on our citizens’ attitude, given the fact that the incident was very suspicious. Such things have also happened to other people recently, in particular, to those who are politically active, but a journalist is at issue here,” said Hmayak Hovhannisyan, the president of the Union of Political Scientists. Political scientist Arman Navasardyan also said that such an attitude toward journalists created a negative atmosphere, “It doesn’t contribute to creating such an atmosphere in the society that is necessary in the pre-election period. As for Hayk Gevorgyan’s case itself, I think that one cannot imagine a worse and funnier operation.”
