“The Country has distorted since 1990,” Ruben Tovmasyan, the first secretary of the Armenian Communist Party (HKK) Central Committee, said at Henaran Club today and blamed the first president of the Republic of Armenia, Levon Ter-Petrossian, for that. He stated, getting more annoyed, “In 1990, the God gave us Levon Ter-Petrossian, who, along with his friends, committed a serious economic crime. That policy is the reason, why Nairit has become a ping-pong ball today – it changes hands all the time. And now the Pan-Armenian National Movement (PANM) has put on a mask and pretends to be innocent.”
All ideas expressed by Comrade Tovmasyan were about the Communist ideology’s superiority, about achievements in Soviet times. www.aravot.am inquired whether it wasn’t nostalgia and whether it wasn’t the time to modernize their ideology, in order to make the society interested. Comrade Tovamsyan responded, “It is not right to use the word ‘nostalgia’ while missing one’s motherland or mother.”
The Communist Party will surely participate in the parliamentary election on May 6; however, they have serious problems with finding the 8-million-AMD election deposit. R. Tovmasyan complained, “There was no price increase in this field, now it has happened here too. I don’t know how 2.5 million AMD have become 8 million. Our friends from Moscow have never helped us; we try to raise that money ourselves through our 45 regional committees. We haven’t raised that sum yet, but even if we do not manage, we will give our personal money and participate in the election, all the same.” Comrade Tovmasyan makes light of public opinion polls and he says about some famous sociologists that they grow their hair long as if they are smart. He only believes the public polls conducted by Zhamanaki Mitk newspaper, as a result of which they will be the 6th force that will appear in the parliament after the election. First 3 are the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), the Armenian National Congress (ANC) and the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA).

According to R. Tovmasyan, they will participate in the election separately; they will make further clarifications at the plenum of the Central Committee that will take place within the next week. The HKK will participate in the election campaign with the following motto, “The Communists have built, along with the Armenian people, the democrats have ruined, along with the prosperous country.”
