RPA faction leader Galust Sahakyan perceived the criticizing speeches made at the 6th congress of the PAP as self-criticism of the PAP. “I was at the congress and one should understand it as self-criticism, there is no other explanation. People have the right to freedom of speech, they organized a congress and it should be perceived as self-criticism of the participants in the congress and we also advocate that there are problems in the country, all the articles of our program will be related to that.”
In Mr. Sahakyan’s words, the Republican Party of Armenia has always been in coalitions since 1999 and the coalition partners have taken a particular position before each election, “When a new election approaches, they think it is natural that they take the best and say that they are a part of the coalition and if they had not been, they would have done more. We don’t grumble about that, because the position we stick to and the work we have done is a good logic to employ for appearing before the people.” The criticizing attitude of the PAP is not surprising for Mr. Sahakyan, “All parties have their propaganda strategy, by the way, the Prosperous Armenia Party too. I don’t think there is anything unusual, everyone tries to create a beneficial situation before the election.”
We inquired whether he shared the notion of some Armenian National Congress (ANC) members that the PAP pretended to be opposition and would use the Rule of Law Party syndrome, “If they criticize phenomena insofar as they really exist, I don’t think that they take an opposition attitude… Certainly, it is not acceptable for us that they exaggerate some facts and try to participate in the election by that. I think all the facts and realities will be presented to the society during our propaganda.”
