Today a rally of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) took place in Theater Square of Gyumri, in which, however, founding President Levon Ter-Petrossian didn’t
participate because of a sickness. The square was crowded, not only the local ANC activists came to listen to opposition candidates – Aram Manukyan, the Pan-Armenian National Movement (PANM) executive committee chairman, Gagik Jhangiryan, Aram Sargsyan, the leader of the Republic Party, Stepan Demirchyan, Nikol Pashinyan – but also many old people disappointed in life.
Let us mention that officers of the national security service photographed all participants one-by-one from inside the theater, sometimes greeting journalists working there. The rally lasted for almost 2 hours, it was conducted by PANM executive committee chairman Aram Manukyan. The latter, explaining to the people gathered the purpose, for which the ANC was going to enter the parliament, said, “Dear folks, it is not an issue of getting parliamentary seats that we solve, we want the parliament to be a sacred institution, a place where the nation’s intellectuals are gathered, where experienced and trustworthy people who have lived an intellectual, economic, ideological life are gathered. Today, unfortunately, 80 people in the parliament are millionaires, those people went to collect their millions, this is a disgrace for our nation. Folks, 70 people who sit there haven’t said a word, they cannot speak, those people cannot write, those people are not educated, those people work as parliamentarians in between khash and kebab, those people work as parliamentarians in between getting sugar and edible oil. Those people have come to collect millions as Rob collected 5-6 billion. This nation suffered, went through years of dark and cold, in order to free Karabakh, that shameless man came devoured, devoured and isn’t full.”
By the way, this is the last pre-election rally of the ANC and as Aram Manukyan informed, they have had around 40 meetings during this time.
