www.aravot.am asked Petros Makeyan, the leader of the Democratic Motherland Party, to assess the election that had taken place in no. 36 electoral district.
Let us remind that a fierce struggle waged here and Petros Makeyan struggled against National Assembly MPs Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) member Mkhitar Varagyan, Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) member Mushegh Petoyan and Hunan Avetisyan, a Rule of Law Party headman of the village of Meghrashen. Mkhitar Varagyan is a brother of the mayor of Artik, Hunan Petrosyan a brother of the Chief of Police and PAP member Mushegh Petoyan who, according to the preliminary results, is the winning candidate has a brother who is respected in the underworld.
Petros Makeyan voiced the following assessment, “I stated from the beginning that there was no politics at all. If there had been a political process here, the picture would have been absolutely different, 99% of the people went after money. It turns out that the one who pays more passes and the people don’t need our political type, they saw money and not the Armenian National Congress (ANC) as a power center. The people don’t really have a vote. I will assess this election in the following way – one opened a sack and turned it upside down. There was no voter who entered a polling station without money, there were only few people with dignity. Although I must say that Artik differs from villages – the ANC won 10%-12% of votes here and in villages, they conducted an election according to the draft drawn up above. They gave money to ignorant and semiliterate slavish village headmen and they fudged the figures. Do you remember how many times I warned that they handed out money, who responded, the police, the prosecutor’s office – their people handed out money, why would they have reacted?”
According to him, as a result of the internal games of the government, they deceived also Hunan Petrosyan, the RLP headman of the village of Meghrashen, they told him that he had chances, they involved him in the game and as a result of dividing the votes, they got rid of MP Mkhitar Varagyan.

According to Makeyan, no voter was out of sight, 99 percent of the people were bought, “penning them into the polling stations like sheep.” “I am concerned about the young men supporting me, we had at least two 20-22-year-old people in every polling station, shall I say to them that this is the future of Armenia?” asks Mr. Makeyan.
In response to our question whether he was ready to appeal the results of the election, the candidate said, “What for, my aim is to destroy the system.”
According to our information, the other two candidates – Mkhitar Varagyan, a brother of the mayor of Artik and Hunan Petrosyan, a brother of the Chief of Police – are going to appeal the results of the election.
