Does the Minister of Culture Want to “Get Even”?

May 14,2012 19:04

Hasmik Poghosyan, the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Armenia, who sheltered on the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) list for proportional representation, has recently started to fire or make a set of representatives of the ministerial system to

submit their resignations. Sona Harutyunyan, the head of the Modern Art Department of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia, and Karen Khachatryan, the deputy director of the History Museum, are among them.

By the way, 400 artists have organized a signature collection, trying to defend the interests of the head of the Modern Art Department and the experienced specialist, to apply to the President and the Prime Minister. The Minister of Culture, on the other hand, assured in a comment made to Ar TV Channel as if everything was fine at the ministry, whereas Harutyunyan, the former head of the department, wrote in his resignation letter that he thought inappropriate to continue working in an unhealthy atmosphere, which was created as a result of the lack of modern governing methods and in which fundamental rights of people were violated and the working conditions were unfavorable.

The newest dismissal is of Mher Grigoryan, the director of the Exhibition Center State Non-Profit Organization of the Ministry of Culture. The latter who had been the director for 9 years, had only honorary diplomas and no reprimands was called to the ministry and compelled to sign a 15-day agreement on humiliating terms, which Grigoryan naturally refused. The most ironic thing is that the one whose agreement had already expired on May 2 – he was already a former director, i.e. ordinary citizen – and who had previously organized the exhibition dedicated to 500th anniversary of Armenian Printing in the city of Halle, Germany, was bestowed the honor of bringing back precious Urbatagirk (The Book of Friday), the only one in Armenia, on May 9. During a conversation with www.aravot.am, Mr. Grigoryan didn’t comment on the news of his dismissal, but he didn’t deny that he was going to defend his rights in the court either.

According to some information, Hasmik Poghosyan is angry that she will say goodbye to her office, which is planned for Shushan Petrosyan, soon, therefore she takes abrupt steps to imitate a minister working for the top brass. And the backstage rumors of the ministry are that before leaving, Hasmik Poghosyan has decided to get even with all those workers with whom she doesn’t have good relations or who don’t have a “protector” and replace them with her people.
